The Pablo Casals Festival
A prestigious chamber music festival – Created in 1950 by the famous Catalan cellist and conductor, the Pablo Casals Festival welcomes world-renowned soloists to Prades in Pyrnes-Orientales. Every year, between the end of July and mid-August, over 10,000 music-lovers and inquiring minds come to listen to the many concerts held in Pyrnes-Orientales’ most beautiful religious buildings, like the Abbey of Saint-Michel-de-Cuxa, Serrabone Priory, Marcevol Priory or the Saint-Martin-du-Canigou.
There are also concerts in unusual venues, like the Canalettes caves at Corneilla-de-Conflent. The musicians perform great masterpieces of chamber music, from Bach to Mozart through Schubert, but also less well-known classic or contemporary repertoires.
2019, the Aurora Chamber Soloists has been invited to inaugurate this prestigious and historic festival with concerts 25-27 July. Music by Mozart, Grieg, Bartok, Bruch, Gershwin and Elgar, among others.
