Welcome to apply for Aurora Composing Master Class.

This is a good opportunity to receive advice for your further music education and career. To gain and further expand your international network.

The Master Classes’ takes place during the ongoing Aurora Festival where you will have free entrance to top class concerts (see the festival program here)

In recent years, over 3000 amazing young artists from 50 countries have participated during the now world famous Aurora Master Classes & Festivals.

  • Selected composers will be asked to write his/her own new short chamber music piece for the festival and masterclass. All orchestra instruments are represented in the festival, offering a wide range of ensemble combinations. The committee will give very exact individual composition tasks to selected composers; instrumentation and length etc. A delivery-deadline will be given for the compositions in order for the actual musicians to come prepared with your piece to the festival.
  • These new pieces, explained above, will be played, worked and performed in the festival with the actual musicians in front of the composing professors and in some cases an audience.
  • The first Aurora Composers Award. One composer will be selected to write a 5-6 min piece for full symphony orchestra. This will be performed during Aurora Classic Festival October 6-8th.
  • Krysctof Penderecki and Sven-David Sandström will both have seminars for the composers, where they will e.g. talk about their own music, and where you also will have the chance to show own compositions.
  • Access to all closed individual and chamber music masterclasses on all orchestra instrument
  • Access all seminars and workshops, orchestra rehearsals.
  • Free entrance to all festival Concerts
  • Create new global networks in a fully international environment of composers, musicians, artists and professors.

The course is aimed for composers who have completed a course of musical study (instrumental study, singing or conducting) and who already have got some of their own music performed
The age limit is 35 years. Classes to be given in English.

After all complete applications have been received, the course organizers and committee will decide which applicants will be admitted to the course. The results will be announced 20 June 2017.

On receiving notification of acceptance for the course, the selected students must confirm their attendance and pay the course fee by the specified deadline. Otherwise the course organizers will offer the place to another applicant.

The organizers decisions are final. No legal recourse will be permitted; no correspondence will be entered into.

The fee for Aurora Composing Master Class is 12 000 SEK for the entire duration of the course.
The registration fee of 1000 SEK shall be paid with credit card (MasterCard or Visa) immediately when submitting the application. You cannot complete the application without also paying the registration fee. This fee covers costs and administration for review of all applications and documents. Therefore, the registration fee will under no circumstances be re-funded.

The course fee of 12 000 SEK for the 10 selected participants. The selection will be sent to all applicants latest June 20, including more information and further instructions how to pay the course fee no later than June 26. Failure of completed payment latest June 26 means next person will be offered same place.
The course fees are not included accommodation, food or travel

Students must declare that they are willing to create diary entries or post information on Facebook, and be prepared to give short interviews.

Aurora Chamber Music retains all rights in respect of photographic or video materials which have been created during the course or recorded at the concerts.

Students are responsible for obtaining visas and paying visa costs.

Students must also pay for their own insurance.


15 June: Last application day. Selection based on individual application: CV, and one chamber music piece, finished or unfinished, free of choise instrumentation.

20 June: Announce the selected composers 

26 June: Last day to pay the course fee 12 000 SEK for selected participants 

August 12-20: Course days in Stockholm

Certificate: On concluding the course, all participants will receive an Aurora Music certificate.
